1 out of every 3? Where are you getting your info?

The defect rate on the 360 was ~23% for the first generation only. When it was switched to the new chipset and they fixed the issue with improperly seated fan systems, it dropped to a more normal 3 - 7%. The PS3 and Wii sit at around a 3% - 5%.

As I previously stated, the overheating issues (which is a common cause for the "red ring of death") can be attributed to users not knowing / not realizing that the machine requires ventilation.

You want actual impressions? Since the new chipset 360 was launched, my store has sold 3x as many 360's as PS3's. I see maybe 1 out of every 75 - 80 units returned/exchanged. Just above 1%. I track this as it is information we supply to the vendors. I have had one Wii come back with a AC adapter issue and for the amount of these we've gone through, that's a very impressive percentage. The PS3 sits about the same as the 360 with the most common issue being the DVD drive not reading discs.

The internet numbers base themselves solely on samples and those samples are primarily from an initial launch and do not properly seperate improvements or changes.

Just a note, I would rather have a 60GB PS3 unit than a 40/80. I would even settle for a 20GB over the 40. (Sony includes HDD replacement/upgrade instructions in their manual and it does not void the warranty). I would also choose a PS3 over a XB 360 for the Blu-ray drive. Games? I don't care for any of them. Who would chose a game pad over a keyboard and mouse for an FPS? I suppose I am missing out on DDR though. I bet that's fun. ([/Sarcasm])

I think both consoles have their own place.  When I bought my 360 last fall, PS3's were still upwards of $600+ dollars and I didn't feel like dropping that much money while I was at college so I bought a 360 with Halo.  And I love my 360, the streaming movies, the excellent online service, and it keeps cool so I'm not worried about it ever getting the Red Ring.

...but, since then the PS3's have dropped in price, in fact down to the same price I bought my 360 for in the fall.  Blu-Ray has won the format war, for now.  It has bluetooth built in, wireless networking, and is a very "open" console compared to the 360.

I am planning on buying the Metal Gear Sold 4 bundle that comes out on June 12th, and it comes with an 80GB PS3 (that once sold for $800), MGS4, a Dualshock 3 controller, and all the backwards compatibility and usb/card reader slots for $500 dollars total.

I think that is a hell of a deal compared to the $475 I dropped at Walmart buying my 360 which doesn't come with Blu-ray built in, wireless networking, free online service, and the sixaxis style of controllers.  And also the promise of many many more games that will fully utilize the Cell Processor to its full capacity coming in the future.

All in all, it comes down to personal tastes.  I love gaming all around, I enjoyed my PS1, PS2, 360, Sega Genesis, Gameboy, ... so why not a PS3.

PS3's and 360's have their places, and both will have their places in my TV stand this summer.  :)

Palm, you bought your 360 after me and I spent $375.  So I highly doubt your 360 alone was $475.  Not to mention, I don't need a blu-ray player, wireless capability, or a stupid fucking sixaxis controller.

So really.. there is no incentive.  I don't see why you'd spend $500 on something you'll use maybe once a week after the first 2 weeks you have it.  I still have yet to find an addictive console game since Socom 2.

That's fine... There's plenty of us who see value in things like motion sensing, wireless controllers with a built in rechargable li-ion, BD disc playback, DVD upconversion, media sharing, wireless internet browsing, etc... If you think that's all worthless then you and I just won't ever see eye to eye on what's considered a great value.

HDMI isn't overrated at all shitty. You can buy HDMI at a dollar a foot from places like monoprice.com. The only reason you think it's overrated is because Monster sells cable at huge markup to people that don't know monoprice exists. HDMI is digital, it either works or it won't, and a six dollar six foot cable is just as good as Monster HDMI ULTRA 9000. I don't see how the 360 beats the PS3 in anything but FPS games, but that's your opinion in the matter. I also don't see different in HD quality... Being an artist I can spot problems in video pretty easily. I can see compression in on demand whereas I can't see it in Blu-Ray, at least not anywhere near as easily. Plus DTS Master HD audio is just unbeatable, and you don't get that on demand. You can't.

Resistance: FoM / FoM2
Metal Gear Solid 4
Final Fantasy 13
High Velocity Bowling
Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds

Heavenly Sword
Ratchet and Clank: ToD
Ridge Racer 7
Siren: New Translation
Warhawk

And there's still a lot more to come. Those are all exclusive titles that the 360 will never get.

If you consider the games I have outlined as "Definitive"  games, then Iam very saddened By your judgment in  Games.

Fall of Man =WW2 game that tries its hardest not to be

Heavenly sword = Prettier Dynasty warriors with not as horrific over dubbing

Drakes fortune = LOL

The Getaaway = Didnt we have this game like years ago?

The rest = Final Fantasy milking, And sports games

When I say definitive I mean games like, Chrono Trigger, BioShock, Viva Pinata, Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic 1&2, Condemned 1&2, Gears of war, Army of Two.

Not Sports Rehash and the 19th Final fantasy.

RevolutionTT has the screeners already (screeners meaning the DVD copies they send out for awards and eventually for rental places to show on their TVs in the store). Unfortunately, its invite only and I've been a member with Shitty there for months and still haven't gotten an invite to send out.

Easily best, most fastest Torrent site I've ever used. Beats Demoid like it was the wheelchair bum in Bum Fights.

What Iam saying is that none of these games Stand out on their own, just old concepts thrown together with a nicer look to them.

Games that shine that leave you wanting more.

Super Stardust is just Asteroids with a nicer look! Heavenly sword is just Dynasty warriors with a nicer look! Drakes fortune, An FPS with a nicer look! The Getaway Shitty game with a nicer look! Folklore, Just Devil May cry with a Fantasy twist to it.

And how can I like games that Arent even out yet? *Cough*Metal Gear Solid 4 *Cough*

My point still stands, you either don't like those games because they're on the PS3 or you're just being an idiot for the sake of trying to argue. I know several games I like and would want on the 360, but it's not enough to make me buy a new console just to play them - also considering there's a chance for them to be PS3 games by the end of this year. If you personally don't like those games, don't tout your opinion as being the majority. If that were the case, the PS3 wouldn't be selling like it is now.

I never said what I have been saying is the majority.

Nor am I simply saying They suck based upon my own opinion (which is my opinion) They are nothing new nor anything thats Peaked my intrest in what I have seen and played on the PS3.

I own a Ps2, GC, Xbox, 360, PS1, And even a goddamned DreamCast, Why? because they have Games that are Mildy Fun/Interesting to Really interesting/fun.

Dont take it as " I dont like any of them simply because They are PS3 games" because truthfully all of the PS3 releases (not games that we can play 1-2 years from now) are simply Lackluster and boring Re-releases of Shitty games (The Getaway)

this argument is kind of dumb... everyone is going to argue what they like the best USUALLY based off of personal experience. Personally I own a PS3 and LOVE it. I have had no problems with it, my friends who own them haven't had problems with them. It is true that the game library isn't really that great which is why I only own maybe 8-9 games. I don't need 200 games that I am only going to play a few times. Just a few that I will really enjoy (CoD4, Army of 2, Orange Box, Fight Night 3, NCCA Football 08, Tiger Woods 08, Unreal Tournament, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2). But, gaming was not the only reason I bought it. I personally hate the 360 but I am not going sit here and tell you that it sucks, and that you should not own one. I will say that one thing that deterred me away from it is that my best friend has gone through 3 of them in less than a year, and hasn't had a problem with his PS3, but that could very well be a coincidence. The main reason I bought a PS3 is because it has a better "max out" point than the 360. HD-DVD is dead so that is a moot point with 360, and blu-ray is awesome. I have 40+ Blu-Ray Movies and they are all amazing... I can easily tell the difference between that, and my DirecTV HD-DVR. If you do not own a TV with at least 720P no HD format will make your picture that much better whether it be cable, 360, or PS3. Also they have a 100gig Blu-Ray disc that is coming out... I don't understand how that cannot make a picture better... more space available means more detail right? Even now with the 50gig disc I can tell a difference.

To make a long argument shorter all the bitching y'all are doing trying to prove one system over another is stupid. It all comes down to personal preference whether that may be game library, bonus material, movie playing capability, controllers, wireless, price, etc.... Just so happens my choice was a PS3 and I am more than happy with that. If your choice was a 360 then good for you... but all the bitching back and forth is getting childish and boring.

Iam sure that the PS3 will grow up to be a more than Good console platform.

But as it stands, its lack of variety of titles in the first coming year is what made me buy a 360 instead.

To each his own.

I'm sorry but the lack of variety? The 360 is primarily a shooting based console, a large portion of its games are based on that genre.

Yeah I dont get that either.

For what I've seen, the PS3 and 360 are pretty close as far as genres and games go. Sports games are the same. A few shooters are exlcusive (i.e. Halo, Resistance) but there are TONS of third party games that are made for both consoles. Most of these third party games are the most famous (i.e. Rock Band).

I wouldn't say it's a shooting based console because the only game i've owned for the 360 that is "shooter based" is Halo 3.  Honestly, there aren't even that many shooter games on it that aren't also on the PS3.

If you think every time you Get a new pinata in your garden you have to whip out AK47s to protect your little pinatas, or Rip off a Piece of Crowbar/Concrete to beat a crazed hobo to death with, or piece together piano scores to get extra items.

Then yea I guess you could say that its mainly a "Shooter" console.

Where we have, Halo3, COD4, BioShock (SEX) and counting the double console "FPS" unless you consider a third person shooter i.e Army of Two, Gears of War, Lost planet, Mass Effect, Condemned1&2, Then you can also consider the PS3 a shooter based console what with Drakes Fortune, COD4, Resistance fall of man, WarHawk, And your Beloved Metal Gear Solid # 7 ( if you count all the little expansions for the PSP )
