Panic at the Disco (Formerly Panic! At The Disco) is an amazing band.
No, they are no Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix Experience, etc. etc., but they are extremely musically gifted guys and have some of the most simple yet beautiful lyrics I've heard since Floyd or Pinback.

Fuck all you haters who are probably going to say "All their songs sound the same," "They're just mainstream pop-shit," etc.

They're first album was probably the only "circus music" I could stand. And Pretty. Odd. Sounds alot like The Beatles White Album/Sgt. Peppers, I love it.

Also, most bands don't market themselves, the label does, and they're on Daydecedence (Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz's label) which is owned by FuledByRamen, a mainstream indie-alternative label, so of course they're going to be marketed to a mainstream audience.

Same here, except I give all music a chance (except country... well only Cash, remember, "If it ain't Cash, it ain't Country"), and a lot of people I talk to about music it, or hate me for it, they'll say things like:
Metal heads:
"How can you listen to indie/pop, only prep queers listen to that."
"Hip-hops for n*****s."
etc.
Same for other fans, just hating on metal, emo, hardcore, etc.

It's so stupid, I think, that someone can pick ONE genre of music and listen EXCLUSIVELY to it.

How could you not give country a chance? Country players have probably the best feel to their songs aside from pop and far exceed many genres in terms of talented musicians. Many of the players are widely used as studio musicians as well. I understand if you don't like the genre as in sound that's fine but another thing is that Johnny Cash was a good writer, but a pretty awful player and would be a terrible measure in terms of talented country players. That being said, I can't listen to country either, but the players are pretty much as good as you can find anywhere.

I'll actually meekly second Thrax's comment.  I couldn't believe how good of a job he did in Alpha Dog.  I kept thinking "Wow, that guy looks like Justin Timberlake, but he can act.  There's no way it could be Justin."  Then IMBD proved me wrong.

I agree to some extent but Dream Theater is in a class of their own.

Wow.

Hey, if you like the sound great. It's a unique sound which hasn't been done before and should be applauded, but in my eyes, I don't see them as these uber talented musicians like everyone thinks they are. As for the lyrics, I'm not big on 'em. Don't listen to them what so ever anymore. I like listening to the feeling for the songs, drastic time changes, etc. Another big problem I find with the majority of modern bands who are into this shred and virtuoso crap is that I highly doubt they even record they're own CD tracks. Bands like Bodom and Dragonforce are pretty brutal live. Shred is good; but only when done properly ala Pantera who killed every show they did.

That's only one song from the Special Defects which isn't too demanding musically, but the second vid might have the most complex rhythm work you will ever find.
