Its pretty much better than WoW in every aspect, mainly I do not seeing battles being won due to items but actual player skill.  You can quest if you like or do like me and que up everytime I can and just quest till my battle starts.  Every class is useful, some are unbalanced but that is not unexpected.  I am digging it alot.

I tend to play melee dps chars, is there any skill to it or is it kinda like wow, where you just do the same thing over and over, pretty much no matter who you're fighting. (charge, hamstring, bam bam, rinse, repeat)

I'm playing a Melee DPS character right now (Marauder) and its awesome.
You can change up your skill types and use different skills depending on the situation.
Say if i was fighting a warrior priest(healer) I'd get a little more complicated and have to use different skills than if i was ganking a Bright Wizard (easy kill :D)

For marauder there are 3 sets of skill types basically afflictions/DPS, Single Target DPS, and AOE/Cone DPS
and you can't use spells from all of them at the same time, you have to mutate between them.

there are other melee DPS characters in the game, Frenzy can tell you all about the fun of playing a Witch Elf.

we're playing on the server Skull Throne

What are the requirements?

Windows XP or Vista
2.5 ghz Pent 4 or equivelant
1 GB RAM (2 for vista)
At least 15 GB of free space
Direct X 9 or later video card
etc etc

its monthly fee, yeah you have a weapon iin your other hand if I am not mistaken.  Your arm mutates not your whole body, so its like a dual wield if you have a sword/axe in the other hand.

I'm playing a chaos marauder on the badlands server, so far the game hasn't impressed me much.. reminds me of world of warcraft with a less newbie friendly interface. I'm level 5, but the game hasn't explained to me anything about what renown points are, what influence is/does, or what I'm getting besides more hit points when I level. I also can't figure out how public quests work, where do you get the quests? I've joined parties that were in the middle of them, but I don't know how to start them on my own or how to access them. I'm wondering if the game somehow shut off tool tips or something. Also, what level can you access rvr?

Just so you know, most of us are playing order on Badlands and Destruction on Skull Throne

there should be tooltips if not, we can explain everything to you if we're on at the same time. (especially if you make your marauder on skull throne)

You can RvR at any level. on the top right you'll see a small circle to the top left of your compass that has the warhammer symbol in it. click that and the join a queue for a sceneario (rvr)

Public Quests are constantly occuring in game, where all you have to do is run to the location and start fighting. If you go to the party search thing and you see a PQ party you can join it and then look on the map for silver squares (not to be confused with the mailbox markers) and that should show you where that particular PQ is.
Remember there are chapters though and sometimes several PQs per chapter (except for chapter 1). Any of those PQ's will add to your influence for THAT chapter. at each third of the influence filled you receive an item from the Rally Master (guy with a blue circle over his head with skulls in it). THe rally master will also let you bind your location.

Also if you finish a PQ and have contributed enough, you'll be entered into a roll for Loot that will show up at the end. if you do well and roll lucky you can get some pretty good items from it (sometimes, but rarely, blue and purple items)

Once again, there should be tooltips explaining lots of stuff, should show up as big blug question marks at the bottom of your screen.

if you make your character on skull throne for destruction my character names are "Bacchus" and "Mirko"

For me, its the world RVR and the Scenarios that make the game.

Very well put, I love the PQ system and the diversity of every class, the ever changing way of Game play is also very fun and keeps you guessing.

Saymas is lvl 8 and TerryTate is lvl 5. My Bwizars is 10 on Badlands and I am trying to keep all 3 around the same level as I go up.

Werx is the name or is it something else?

I've put in enough time to get to level 15. I've only had 4 days to work with, but impressions so far -
1. The combat is very very slow, whether you like that sort of thing or not. In comparison to wow where you can 2-3 shot someone, it can take 10-30 hits to kill someone 1 on 1. Personally I find it unsatisfying to hit someone 18 times and then have them run away.
It feels like I'm nibbling on their ear instead of swinging a giant axe.

2. Heals are overpowered to hell, a good healer makes or breaks a match in rvr easily. You can take 12 swings at a guy in 15 seconds of time (usually while you're getting battered by 1-3 other guys), and 1 heal can reverse what ever damage you've done.

3. The melee dps has no place in the game as of right now. If you rush into a battle as a tank, you'll feel good knowing that you're soaking up hits for your casters. If you rush into battle as a caster, you'll feel good throwing those 400 damage fireballs (talking about tier 2) or healing the shit out of your teammates. If you rush into battle as melee dps, you know you can kind of take a few hits and that you can hurt someone if they don't move very much and don't snare you (still talking about tier 2, but i hear it gets much worse in tier 3).

4. Scenarios seem to give the most experience, grinding pq's is also good but not as good.

5. Like the gamespot review says, the questing is mediocre in comparison to pvp, and the pvp is still waiting to be balanced perfectly.

I think all the balancing will get ironed out over time, but I don't know if I'll get over the slow combat, it's personal taste though, so whatever.

1. That keeps the game balanced and makes it so you're not dying the second you run into combat unless a couple people attack you. a marauder does a shit load of damage if you know how to use it. plus theres a reason that the slowing ability exists. SO THEY CAN"T RUN AWAY

2. This is why you use strategy and teamwork and go after the healers first!

3. once again, melee dps does a lot of damage. theres the slow ability so people can't run. and I personally usually go around 30 - 5 in scenarios with my Marauder often with a couple solo kills.

4. Scenarios are awesome and good for experience, and rather than grinding PQs just do quests while waiting in the queue for a scenario.

5. The questing is easy and gets you through the game and to higher levels at a good pace. so that way you can move onto different PVP areas (wehre all the fun is) in a reasonable amount of time.

Thank you, and good day.

It just sounds to me like you don't know how to play you class if you die before you kill anything.

Just a little hint.  If you're a marauder, I wouldn't suggest sprinting into battle trying to attack a tank.  This will cause you to die instantly.  That's not a flaw in the game, that's a flaw in your gameplay.

Also, Bright Wizards and Sorceress' deal amazing amounts of damage, but on my Witch Elf I can kill one in 3 seconds.  About 5 with my Marauder, using my hammer mutation and AoE DPS skill.

Also, snares work both ways, especially with a marauder.  You shouldn't have to worry about people running away because you can snare them and kill them before the snare is done.

I don't know how many scenarios you've participated in, but 2 or 3 melee characters that have MEDIOCRE teamwork will never lose.  Me, Potato, and my friend have done RvR's together as 3 Marauders and I don't believe we have lost one yet.

I forgot to add that if you want a game where you can kill everyone in 1 or 2 hits you should go play AoC.

A gemmed out Guardian can 1 shot every single class in the game.

By making it take time to kill a person, you balance out the game.  Heals are good, but when you're healing like crazy you run out of action points IMMEDIATELY.  I have a 17 Rune Priest, and if someone is whooping my ass, I can't outheal the damage before I run out of action points.

Ive found that yes indeed What werx says is sometimes true that Melees get blasted to all hell alot of the time and do nowhere as much damage as BW or Sorcs do.

This game is still young and still needs tweaks, But so far everything is in close balance IMO.

Yeah, I'm getting used to it now, the slowness I mean. It's not that bad when teams are decently balanced. I still think it'd be cool if they made an Alterac Valley style rvr scenario. Sure you could say it's just pve, but it's not if people are on the defensive as well as the defensive.

But it looks like my comp can't run this game well enough to justify paying for it, I've got a single core 3.2 ghz and only a gig of ram. This equates to tons of freezing as it loads things on screen. Once the loading is done, it runs rather smoothly but it's almost constantly loading new people and objects.
I'll try to play it for the rest of the month every once and awhile, but it can get sooo painful.

I thought the singlecore cpu was more unheard of than the gig of ram. Yeah, my comp gets video lag even in css, and i play on low everything. And update - After I posted the last post, I tried playing warhammer and apparently now it crashes everytime it gets past the opening movie, and I can't do anything but press the restart button. Sucks. Any suggestions?

I also lag like a sonfabitch in RvR scenarios.  p4 3.0 ghz, 2 gigs of ram and a 7600 GS 512 mb card.... gayness.  I cant even do the Mourkan Scenario in T2, its like watching a damn slide show.  I havent tried the other 2 SC's in T2 because evidently they have ridiculously long ass que lines for them.

I found out it's happening because windows security in the background is asking if i'd like to allow war online to connect to the internet, and i can't alt tab to press the button. Any idea how to disable windows security, or it's feature of asking if i'd like to allow programs to use the internet?

Turn off the Firewall in your security center. Windows Firewall is a worthless peice of crap anyway. It won't actually protect you from anything, but it will cause you lag and horrible situations of the stupid prompts popping up.

If you MUST have it on, you can always tell it to always allow War.
