Are the mechanics significantly changed over the previous ones?  Or is it just better graphics?

The mechanics are a bit different, the new counter punch system is awesome, just cant use it against the computer since it telegraphs everything you do, ala Mortal Kombat cheese countering.  The graphics are superb.  I am just button mashing right now and knocking everyone out in the 1st and second rounds till I decide to sit down and actually learn to play with the new mechanics in place.

The roster is excellent minus they didnt get fucking Bernard "the executioner" Hopkins in it.  Big Ol' George Foreman is in it, and of coarse the only boxer I play with is Tyson.

The create a character is very in depth ala Smackdown vs Raw, you can also put your own face on it and download/upload other created boxers, example I have downloaded these so far:

Chuck Norris
Obama
Billy Mays
Dee Bo (Friday, Next Friday)
Kimbo Slice (doesnt look like him too much, but fun to whoop his overrated ass)
Apollo Creed
