Stardock's Fences
« on: January 03, 2010, 07:03:23 PM »

Fences is a free desktop icon organizer. It basically allows you to make containers, put titles on them and any icons that you'd like in them, be they shortcuts, folders, whatever. They don't act like folders themselves, so your files are still in \Users\whatever\Desktop\. Also, you can double-click your desktop to make them all disappear, so that you can just see your background.

Fences is extremely useful and for those of us with a lot of desktop clutter that hates destop clutter, it only makes sense to use Fences. You can move the boxes around to anywhere that you want, even overlapping each other. You can set transparency as well if you'd like.

If you want to do anything beyond these features, such as  using skins/themes on them and what-not, then you'll need Fences Pro.

I've never cared to try Fences Pro, but the only usefulness I can see with it is the ability to set up default fences for certain icons. Like all folders go here, all pictures go there. Not really anything important enough that I care about.
