Thank God for global warming
« on: February 10, 2010, 04:43:10 PM »

I'll tell you what you should all thank sweat jebus for global warming.  Just imagine how bad these storms would be if it were actually cold.  Between the storm on Saturday and today I've got about 3 feet of snow so far.  If it weren't for Al Gore I might be looking at 20 feet.

Actually, if it was colder, I'm not sure if you'd get any snow.

Because El Nino has weakened a bit and didn't push the winter storms that way? How does that have anything to do with "Global Warming?"

Anyway, let the debate begin.

Really?  They have received almost their typical amount of precipitation up to this date, but the majority of it has been rain, rather than snow.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/10/sports/olympics/10olysnow.html

Quote
The Olympic plans at Cypress were undercut by the warmest January on record, which kept snowmaking to a minimum. According to Environment Canada, the average temperature this year was 7.2 degrees Celsius (45 Fahrenheit), when it normally is 3.3 C (38). From Dec. 1 to Jan. 31, the area received 79 percent of its usual precipitation, but most of it was rain.

And even then, why would you assume that the weather pattern called El Nino wouldn't be interrelated with what could potentially be a global changing of climate?

From the Vancouver Sun:
Quote
A weakening El Nino will lead to a warm and somewhat dry weather pattern for the west coast, according to AccuWeather.com.

Maybe you can find something on the Huffington Post or SF Gate.

Yeah, if you actually read the article, it talks about the weakened El Nino isn't pushing the normal winter storms up to Washington, which is the start of Vancouver's lack of snow.

But hey, the Global Warming studies aren't consistent, why should the assumed results be any different?

It's not even dumb to host it in Canada, just dumb to host it in a place that doesn't get snow. It worked fine in Calgary back when it was there, and anything close enough to the Rockies would be fine.
