So, lets make a group this year again, I need a better showing (but I got Villanova into the final four last year!!) this time around.

Also, do you guys want to use Yahoo standard scoring like we have used in the past or the progressive scoring? I'm ruling out straight scoring. They are all listed below though.

Yahoo! Default - Traditional scoring system with a heavier weighting on later rounds. Works well with Seed Difference bonuses.

Progressive - Slight weighting toward later rounds keeps this game interesting past round one. Try it with Upset Pick bonuses.

Straight - Correct picks are always worth 1 point. No weightings. May the best bracket win!

Points per correct pick by round:

Important Notes
Groups that use bonus points will not display the maximum possible points for each bracket.
Players in a group using custom scoring will also be scored using Yahoo's default scoring for ranking on the Overall Leaderboard.
Upset Pick Bonus – Upset pick bonuses give bonus points for picking lower-seeded teams correctly. You will be awarded the number of points indicated for each upset you correctly predict.

Seed Difference Bonus – Seed difference bonuses give bonus points for picking lower-seeded teams correctly. If you correctly select a lower-seeded team, you will earn a bonus of the difference between the seeds times the bonus multiplier for the round.

For example, if you correctly picked a 10th seeded team over a 6th seed in round two, and round two has a multiplier of 3, you would earn (10 - 6) * 3 = 12 bonus points.

Hmm. I don't think I like the really fancy scoring stuff. Progressive sounds like the right way to do it? I don't like doubling it each round because then it's almost never close at the end, or everyone makes really really safe brackets and it's boring.

I can set it to 1 bracket each or up to 5. Right now it is set at 5 but that can be changed to whatever you guys like.

I kind of agree with you Thrax about the scoring. There is also the option to do bonus points for picking under dogs if people want. Let's wait and see how everyone else chimes in.

Let's get some more people in there. There was more than 5 of us last year. Those of you who have x-fire/steam/whatever let others know.

Also, how many brackets are we planning on doing? Just one or should we do a "What I think" and a "What I want"?

I was thinking just one but that "what I want" sounds like a decent idea for a 2nd one. Although I could easily just do that one on my own. Last year I had 4 other brackets outside our group.

Not like they take much time to fill out. I'm going to set it at 2 then for now.

What am I doing about scoring?

Currently it is set at (by round) 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. Plus there is an upset bonus which is equal to the difference in seed. So, a 14th seed beats a 3rd seed and you get 11 bonus points assuming you picked the 14th seed.
