Hyperthreading is both good and bad. It depends on how the programs are coded. For gaming hyperthreading isn't important as long as most of the programs running in the background are idle. Disabling hyperthreading in that case can be beneficial, especially when talking about a CPU with multiple cores. That's why i5's in gaming perform just as good as i7's.
